Dec 3, 1914 -- Springfield Republican:

Mrs Lucy T Leavitt, 83, died yesterday morning about 7 o'clock at her home in Buckland. Mrs Leavitt was born January 16, 1831, in Buckland. She was a very precocious child and began school at the age of 2-1/2 years. After finishing the course in the district school she attended the old Franklin academy in Shelburne Falls in 1848 and later Conway high school. She later taught in South Deerfield, West Cummington, and Buckland and spent seven years in the West teaching in the late '50s and early '60s. She was married February 16, 1881 (sic), to R. H. Leavitt of East Charlemont. She was a member of the Congregational church in Buckland and had been zealous in her work for the church and all other worthy causes. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs Mary Palmer of Kansas and Mrs Electa Stratton of Shelburne Falls, and a grandniece, Miss Lura E Hite, at home. The funeral will be held at the home in Buckland Saturday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock, Rev. J. W. Moulton, pastor of the Congregational church in that town officiating. Burial will be in Arms Cemetery Shelburne Falls.
