At the age of 18, Guy Waller joined the National Guard in Notasulga, Alabama. It is uncertain how long he remained a member of the Guard, but he was also listed as a member of the 167th Infantry Regiment of the Alabama National Guard in Montgomery, Alabama in 1928.

On October 30, 1940, Guy registered for the draft, giving his wife as his next of kin and Archie Bennett as his employer.

There is no enlistment record found for Captain Waller, but his obituary states that he had been in the service for only a month at the time of his death. He died of a heart attack on August 24, 1942, while stationed at McDill Field in Tampa, Florida, attached to the base utility engineers."
