Caroline was born March 27, 1919 in Cleveland, WI to the late John and Ella (Wagner) Hoffman.
She was a graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School, Class of ‘36 and the Sheboygan County Normal School, Class of 38. Caroline then taught school for several years.
On July 10, 1940, Caroline married Howard Payne in Sheboygan Falls.
She was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish (formerly St. Mary's). She was also a member of St. Nicholas Hospital Auxiliary and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
In addition to her husband, Howard, survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Jeffrey) Kirby of Champaign, IL and Mary Payne of Sheboygan Falls; two sons, David (Gerri) Payne of Helena, MT and John Payne of Sheboygan; one grandson, Eric Kirby of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Betty Ann Huebner of Chattanooga, TN; and one sister-in-law, Luella Hoffman of Sheboygan Falls and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and an infant son.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday evening, September 18, 2001 at blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. Burial took place in St. Mary's Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls.
