Brawley joined the Texas Rangers under "Black Doc Stewart", Wise County State Rangers, organized at Prarie Point (Rhome), Wise county Texas. He was a 2nd Lt of his company, he resigned to enlist in Co A 14th Texas Cavalry
CSA. Commissioned as 3rd Lt after action at Corinth and sent home. Reenlisted in Rangers, Elected City Marshall McKinney Tx 1883, Dept Sheriff Collin Co until 1893, county Tres in 1894.
