CLEVELAND FARMER LOSES ARM IN CUTTER
Gust Koellmer, 58, a farmer residing five miles west of Cleveland,
suffered a badly mangled left arm in a feed cutter Saturday afternoon.
He was rushed to the St. Nicholas hospital at Shebogyan where the arm
was amputated between the shoulder and the elbow. The accident occurred
as Mr. Koellmer and his son, Walter, were filling a silo on the Koellmer
farm Saturday afternoon. The carrier belt on the filler stopped and then
started suddenly as Mr. Koellmer was attempting to pull the carrier loose,
catching his arm and pulling it into the belt, according to the injured
man. Mr. Koellmer said he was not certain whether the arm became entangled
in the carrier or fly wheel. The son, who was nearby, shut off the power
which drove the carrier and saved his father from probable further injury.
A physician was summoned from Cleveland and took the injured man to the
hospital where the amputation was performed.
