Enlisted in the 7th U.S. Cavalry on 13 February 1875 as a private in Company K. He was not present with his company at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, as he was on detached service, probably either at Powder River Depot or Fort Abraham Lincoln.

He died of typhoid fever at Fort Abraham Lincoln on 20 August 1876.
