November 4, 1892
Died at his home near Kirksville, Adair county, Mo., Oct. 27, 1892, Francis Hollenbeck, aged 80 years, 26 days. He was born Oct. 1, 1809, in New York, married when about twenty five to Margaret Emery who walked by his side sharing his joys and sorrows until June 12, 1883, when she passed on to the spirit land. He was converted in 1857 and united with the M.E. church and as long as health permitted it was his delight to meet and worship with the people of God. He was the father of five children the eldest of whom died in 1862. One son is living in Texas and the two daughters in New York, all married. While the son and his wife and the two grand children who ministered to every want will sadly miss him in their home, the children so far away will be among the chief mourners when they receive the sad intelligence that their father is gone. Could he have chosen his own time to depart this life he could not have chosen more wisely. As we laid him to rest by the side of his companion the lovely autumn day, and the falling of the leaves, led our thoughts forward to the glorious change of the spring time, and that so in the resurrection morn would they awake in newness of life.
----Rev. J.E. Rutledge.
