The Earth has lost a good and faithful caretaker. Frederick Arthur Roehl passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. He was 94 ½ years old.
He was born on January 4, 1916 in the Town of Mosel, a son of Edward and Myrtle (Bartzen) Roehl. He had one brother, William (Mildred) Roehl; and two sisters, Ruth (Norman Lutze-Albert Stuckman) and Marion (Harold) Karstedt.
He lived and farmed in the Town of Mosel until his marriage on November 4, 1939 to Myrtle Siggelkow of Edwards. Together, they farmed in the Town of Sheboygan on County Trunk Y for 50 years, raising the girls Diane, Darlene and Doris.
Faith, family, friends and farming were all important to Frederick. In the past, he has held membership and various duties with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haven, Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler, and presently Saron United Church of Christ in Sheboygan Falls.
He was an honest, hard working man, who was always there for his family, especially taking wonderful care of his wife Myrtle when she needed it the most. Myrtle passed away in 2003 after 64 years of marriage.
As a couple, they spent many hours gardening, dancing, playing cards, and visiting with neighbors and relatives. They retired from farming in 1989 and moved to Howards Grove but Fred never stopped keeping a watchful eye on the areas crops and, of course, the weather.
After Myrtle passed, he surrounded himself with pictures of his great-grandchildren and loved watching them play and grow. Besides playing a good game of Sheepshead, he enjoyed word search books, baseball and talking with the "locals" about farming, often times while out for a drive ensuring the crops were progressing nicely.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Ronald) Matzdorf of Plymouth; grandchildren, Vicky (Dan) Urban, Julie (Tim) Chisholm, Todd (Tammy) Matzdorf; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene (Larry) Gumm of Johnsonville; grandchildren, Duane (Lori) Gumm, Gayle (Michael) Holzmann; daughter and son-in-law, Doris (Gordon) Feldmann of Sheboygan Falls; grandchildren, Michelle (David) Johanning, Melissa (Kevin) Fleck, and Tim (Sara) Feldmann. He is further survived by 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Karstedt; a sister-in-law, Lavina Doersch, along with nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Frederick was preceded in death by a brother, William and a sister, Ruth.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Saron United Church of Christ, in the Town of Sheboygan Falls ,with the Rev. Kathryn Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow in the Saxon Cemetery in the Town of Centerville.
Wittkopp-Schneider Funeral Home of Plymouth is assisting the family with arrangements.
Frederick was an excellent farmer, never being wasteful, making a good living, and never forgetting that everything he had was a Gift from God.
