The mother Louisa died 17 August 1902 and later Tom King died 15 June 1909, Webster Co., KY when Myrtie was age 11. In his will dated 03 July 1903 of Webster Co., KY he names his thirteen living children. He left his five youngest children under the guardianship of Thomas M. HANKINS. But, according to family members, the youngest, Myrtie, was raised by her half sister, Betty.
Tom and Betty lived between Sebree and Dixon, Webster Co., KY. Betty was known as a great prayer warrior. Her father, Tom KING was half Cherokee Indian and her mother Jemima COZART was of French Huegenot origin, descendant from Jacques COSSART (b 1639 Leyden, Holland, Netherlands; d ca 1685, Bushwyck (now Brooklyn), New Netherlands (now New York)) and Lea Villeman (or Lydia Willems) who were the Immigrant COSSART in America; he was son of Jacques COSSART (b ca 1595, Picardy, France) and Rachelle GELTON.
