Fireman First Class Aldrich was the son of Ralph and Golden Roberta Beens Aldrich. He died aboard the American submarine USS Triton (SS-201) during WWII, between Rabaul and Shortlands Basin in the Pacific. It is assumed that the USS Triton was sunk during a depth charge attack.

Ralph had two older sisters, Hazel and Doris.
