Mrs. Nellie Fowler
High Requiem mass for Mrs. Nellie Marie Fowler, 72 of Los Angeles and formerly of Beloit, was conducted her Monday at 9 a.m. in St. John’s Catholic church with interment following in St. John’s cemetery. Officiating was the Right Rev. Msg. S.V. Fraser, pastor of St. John’s,
Mrs. Fowler, the mother of L. Allen Fowler, veteran Beloit Post office employee and a member of the Beloit City Council, died of a heart attack in her sleep at her home on South Hobart Boulevard, Los Angeles, July 26.She had not been ill.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary for the deceased was held Sunday at 4 p.m. by the Legion of Mary and again at 7:30 p.m. by the St. John’s parish in the Harrison Funeral Home which had charge of local services. Mrs.Fowler’s body had been flown her from Los Angeles where the Holy Rosary had been recited at 2 p.n. Wednesday, July 28, at the Mispagel Mortuary.
She also is survived by three other sons, Gaylord of Ashland, Ore.; Norman Cyril of Colton, Calif., and Francis of Rialto, Calif.,and a daughter, Rosemary Fowler, Los Angeles.
In addition she leaves her 95 year-old mother, Mrs. Ceclia M .Allen, and a sister, LaVeta Allen, both of Fort Myers, Fla., a brother, J.Frank Allen of Minneapolis, Minn., and other sister, Mrs. Grace Huss of LaBelle, Fla., 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Born in Fresno, Calif., Dec. 20, 1892, the daughter of a railroad conductor, Lovell M. Allen, Mrs. Fowler grew up in Fort Scott, Ks.,graduating from Fort Scott High School in 1909. She became a country schoolteacher near Junction City and south of Glen Elder, where she met and married her late husband, Forrest G. Fowler in 1914. The family subsequently lived on farms southwest and east of Beloit and in Cloud County before moving into Beloit in 1936.
She moved to Southern California in 1950 to make her home and had been active in several groups there, including the Catholic Daughters of America Court, Mystical Rose 1411 of Riverside, Calif., and the Fort Scott Club of Los Angeles County. At her death she was a member of Holy Name Catholic parish of Los Angeles.
Pall bearers at final rites for Mrs. Fowler were six longtime friends and or former neighbors, Earl Boyd, Julian Gaston, Henry Heidrick,Ray Jostes, Everal Peavey and bill Vonderheide.
Out of town relatives who came to Beloit for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Fowler, and son, Charles; Cyril Fowler and son, Noble;Francis Fowler and son, Douglas; Rosemary Fowler; J. Frank Allen with wife and son, David, of Minneapolis, Min.; Edgar Fowler of Ashland, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs.Will Fowler of Norton; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Steinbrock and children of Salina,and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Peterson and son Steven of Concordia.
