Laura Abbie Shedd married Charles Hodgdon Schweppe February 22, 1913. Her parents gave her Mayflower Place on Lake Michigan as a wedding present. Mayflower Place is at 405 North Mayflower Road, Lake Forest, Illinois. Schweppe mansion was unoccupied for fifty years after Laura's husband committed suicide over the death of his wife. He was also in poor health. Laura died of a heart attack on April 21, 1937 and was entombed in Shedd Mausoleum in Rosehill Cemetery.
