Edward was born in Centerville Township, Cleveland, Manitowoc County, WI on June 22, 1920, to Ernst and Helen Roehl Jaehnig.
At the onset of World War II he joined the Army Air Corp and was attached to the 13th Air Force, 38th Air Engineering Squadron. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre on the island of Fiji as part of the P-38 fighter aircraft maintenance crew as Supervisor. He proudly served his country from September 1941 to October 1945. Edward was awarded the Philippines Liberation ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with three bronze stars. He enjoyed attending many of his squadron's reunions over the years.
Following the end of WWII, he returned to Manitowoc County and married Dolores Fitzgerald.
Edward is survived by his longtime companion of 35 years, Doris Dixon of Jackson, CA; son, Dennis (Marsha) Jaehnig of Templeton, CA: daughters, Dianne Murphy of Orem, UT and Carol (Greg) Machado of Jackson, CA; and brother, Melvin (Kathryn) Jaehnig of Cleveland, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernst and Helen Jaehnig; brother, Robert Jaehnig; and sister, Jeanette Tonn.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Edward Otto Jaehnig on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at a graveside service at Saxon Cemetery in Cleveland. A luncheon will follow at the VFW in Cleveland.
Edward Otto Jaehnig passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Provo, Utah.
