During his lifetime, Hugo Sommer was one of the nation's leading authorities on the dairy industry. He joined the dairy and foods industries department, at the UW, in 1920. Authored two books: "The Theory & Practice Of Ice Cream Making", and "Market Milk & related Products". In 1942, Sommer recieved the Borden Award, for his outstanding work in dairy manufacturing. Sommer was a member of The American Chemical Society, & The American Dairy Science Association.
