Death Visits Ranks of G.A.R. Twice in Week

Comrades of G.L. Nevius post, No. 1, Grand Army of the Republic, on Wednesday afternoon will attend the second funeral within a week of one of their group, that of Cyrus H. Scott, whose death yesterday reduced the resident membership of the post to twenty-five.

Mr. Scott, who had made his home in Rockford for along period until eighteen months ago, died at the home of his son, Samuel Scott, at Harrison Monday.

A farmer in this county for many years, he was one of the oldest residents of the Harrison community.  He was boy July 16, 1843.

He enlisted in the Union Army Aug. 6, 1862, and served with Company A, 74th Illinois infantry, throughout the Civil War.  He was honorably discharged June 18, 1865.

That same year, on Dec. 8, 1865, he married Miss Mary Wishop at Beloit, Wis.  She died in 1902.  Two sons and a daughter survive, Mrs. C.R. Reber, 403 North Central avenue Rockford; Howard Scott, Shirland, and Samuel Scott, Harrison.

Mr. Scott had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Reber, while he lived in Rockford.  About a year and one-half ago he moved to his son, Samuel, at Harrison.

He married for a second time in 1910 when he took Miss Ida May Smith for his wife.  She died July 14, 1928.  A daughter was bon to this union.  She is Mrs. Laura Ferns.

Also surviving are three grandsons and a granddaughter.

Military funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Harrison church.  Burial will be in the North Burritt cemetery.

Members of the G.L. Nevius post, of which Mr. Scott was affiliated, will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial hall and will be transported in cars to Harrison to take part in the funeral.

The death of Mr. Scott is the second since Memorial Day among the surviving comrades of G.L. Nevius post.
