KINGSPORT – Van Jackson "Jack" Ball, 91, passed away Thursday (July 24, 2008) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Ball was a native of Marshall, North Carolina and had lived with his daughters for the past eight years in Kingsport, Atlanta, Georgia and Asheville, North Carolina. He was a member of the Shoal Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He served on the Madison County Farm Bureau Federation Board since 1975 and was a charter member of Marquis de Lafayette SAR chapter in Fayetteville, Georgia.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Pearl Davis Ball and one infant daughter, granddaughter, Marcia Ball Barnette, his parents, Logan and Olivia Allison Ball, his brother, Warren G. Ball, sisters, Mary Sue Edney and Viola Ramsey, son-in-law, Clayton E. McKinney.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Sue Ball, Marshall, NC; daughters, Judy and Bill Cox, Leicester, North Carolina; Jewell McKinney, Kingsport; and Joyce and Ray Patton, Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Brian C. and Brent "Jack" McKinney and Jeanne Cox; two great grandchildren, Jacqueline Stone and Tyler Barnette; two great great grandchildren, Paige and Paris Honeycutt; sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Al Slagle, Tucson, AZ; half sister, Jarvis Ann Ball, Alexander, NC; four sisters-in-law, Virginia Roberts, Elva Mae Henderson, Robbie Creson and husband, Bill; Bettie Jean Rice and husband, J. V.; several nieces and nephews and special cousins, Kathleen Ball Sluder and Elva Ball Sluder.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Church Hill and anytime at the residence of his daughter, Jewell McKinney. The family will also receive friends Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home in Marshall, North Carolina.

Services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Madison Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ronald Dodson will officiate and burial will follow in the Dry Pond Cemetery, Marshall, North Carolina.

Pallbearers will be Brian McKinney, Brent Jack McKinney, Danny Henderson, Keith Franklin, Tyler Barnette, Conley Goforth, Marvin Ball, Joe McDonald and Ken Ball.

Honorary bearers will be H. L. Johnson, Brian Arrowood, Dr. Lucian Rice, Dr. Louise Horney, Dr. Bruce Vincent, Dr. Karthik Rama Krishnan, Ed Roberts, Mike Vermillion and Ashley Warren Ball.
