Sterling Caler, 90, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in Sunrise Assisted Living, Wooster, Ohio, where he resided since January, 2008. Born November 27, 1917, in East Berlin, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lillie (Cole) Caler. Mr. Caler was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover. He and his wife were avid roller skaters. Mr. Caler retired from Doubleday Publishing in Hanover after many years of service. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corp. during WWII. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mary Louise (Resh) Caler; sons, Steve Caler and wife, Carol of Wooster, Ohio, and Terry Caler and wife, Sally of Mechanicsville, Va.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph Caler, and sister, Ruthetta Laughman, both of Hanover. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters. Friends will be received at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick St., Hanover, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A service to celebrate and honor Sterling will be held at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jack R. Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors.
