Calleen Roberts Luke Martineau Carter
1934 - 2024
Calleen Roberts Luke Martineau Carter, of Provo, Utah, our much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone, passed away on April 17, 2024, just a few weeks shy of her 90th birthday. She was born in Provo, Utah, on May 12, 1934, to Jesse Max Roberts and Irene Mildred Duckett Roberts.
Calleen is survived by her loving husband, George D. Carter; seven living children: Shawn (Susan) Luke, Lisa (Creig-deceased) MacArthur, Lincoln (Toi) Luke, Collette King, Lara (Randy) Hinckley, Rebecca (Bruce) MacArthur, John (Jenny) Luke; stepchildren: Kevin (Lisa) Carter and Tonya (Nick) Hamby; 36 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and brothers: Bert Roberts and Bliss (Maryann) Roberts; sister-in-law, Jilene (Kent-deceased) Roberts. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine Cole and Nadine Attaway; a brother, Kent Max Roberts; and her dearly missed daughter, Elizabeth Suzanne Luke.
She was raised in Provo, Utah, on a dairy farm with her family. It was the beginning where she acquired a great work ethic. Her life and marriage then took her to Oakland, California, followed by a move south to Twentynine Palms, California, where she lived for 30 years and grew to love the desert, then a few short years living in Northern California, ultimately returning her to her beloved Utah. Here she enjoyed reuniting with her family and friends and her roots in her beloved state of Utah.
She married George D. Carter after losing her husband, Lennox "Marty" Martineau. Calleen and George had enjoyed the past 14 years living the life only a young couple could dream of. When they met, little did they know how much they had in common: remembering mutual high school classmates at Provo High, as well as their love and the history of Provo.
They loved traveling, eating out, visiting family and friends, and loving the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The sweetest common denominator they had was living the farm life and gardening—bringing her full circle in her life. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Calleen lived and loved the gospel throughout her life.
She leaves a huge void in all our lives and she will be missed terribly.
