Enlisted on 1 July 1875 into the 7th U.S. Cavalry who would participate in the "Indian Wars". He was mustered in as a private. He was a member of the 7th Cavalry Band. Beings that the 7th did not need a band when they left Fort Abraham Lincoln in May 1876 that no doubt the reason why he was not at the Battle of the Little Big Horn that terrible day in June 1876.
