Doris Louise Carlson, age 86, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Doris was born August 23, 1934 in Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Hattie (Thompson) Rains. She was raised in the Villisca and Stanton area graduating from Stanton High School in 1952. Doris was united in marriage to John Carlson on February 17, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Stanton, Iowa. Doris was a longtime active member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching all of the kids sporting events and school activities. Doris was a secretary at the Stanton Community Schools for over thirty years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter: Joyce Merrick; husband: John Carlson on April 10, 2018; brother: Jimmie Rains; half-sister: Marjorie Thiles; and brothers-in-law: Clayton Johnson and Larry Shannon. Survivors include her daughters: Janie Voss and husband Les of Villisca, IA and Jennifer Heuer and husband Craig of Villisca, IA; grandchildren: Joshua Merrick and wife Kim of Omaha, NE; Somer Plucker and husband Matt of Henderson, NV; Brett Merrick of Omaha, NE; Brandie McFarland of Stanton, IA; Karmin Hasse and husband James of LaGrande, OR; John-James Heuer and wife Shannon of Villisca, IA; and Levi Heuer and wife Elizabeth of Shenandoah, IA; 8 great grandchildren: Cassidy Merrick; Mason and Quentin Plucker; Sylas Heuer; Braden Dickenson; Brynnlee Hasse, Sophia Heuer; and Victoria McFarland; great great grandchildren: Liam and Ava Marie; 3 step-grandchildren: Jennifer Ballard, Jamie McMullen, and Jarod Voss; 4 step-great grandchildren; sister: Dorothy Johnson of Stanton, Iowa; sister-in-law: Teresa Shannon of Glenwood, IA; brother-in-law: Robert Thiles of Omaha, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
A private family memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa. A memorial fund is being established in Doris's name.
