Services for Theodore M. Ryerson, 65, long-time Bakersfield laundry operator, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Ryerson, part-owner of Citizen's Laundry, died Thursday evening in a Bakersfield hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Active in civic and business affairs in Bakersfield since he came to Bakersfield in 1927, Mr. Ryerson was part-owner and manager of the Family Service Laundry and remained as an owner with S. L. Kaar when Family Service and Citizen Laundry merged recently.
Mr. Ryerson was born in Hillsboro, N.D., Dec. 8, 1894. He came to California as a salesman with Dun and Bradstreet. While he was with that company, he became associated with several laundry operators, including former Secretary of Labor, L. C. Schwellenbach (1945-1948).
Mr. Ryerson was prominent in the movement to extend Chester Avenue to Highway 99, a movement which was consummated successfully in the early 1940's.
He was active in the Bakersfield Optimist Club and the Elks.
Mr. Ryerson is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida Ryerson, Yucaipa; three sisters, Grace Ryerson, Mrs. Selma Keyes, both of Bakersfield, and Lucile Ryerson, Yucaipa; one daughter, Mrs. K. E. Parmelee, Alameda; two sons, R. T. Ryerson, Bakersfield, and Dick Baldwin, Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.
