Wyllys Terry Jr., an insurance broker, died on Tuesday at the Southern Chester County Medical Center at Jennersville, Pa., He was 82 years old and lived in Kennett Square, Pa., and Castine, Me.
Mr. Terry died of lung cancer, a spokesman for the family said.
He retired in 1970, after 40 years in the business, as an insurance broker and partner in Alexander & Alexander of Philadelphia.
After graduating from Yale University in 1931, he joined the insurance firm of Terry & Company in Manhattan.
In World War II he was a lieutenant colonel with the 101st Cavalry in the Pacific.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elena Howell; three sons, Wyllys 3d, of Cambridge, Mass., James, of Manhattan, and Michael, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, Baldwin, of Weston, Mass., and Walter B., of Peapack, N.J., and three grandchildren.
