Rock Musician, Songwriter. He was the lead singer, guitarist, chief songwriter, bandleader and co-founder of the highly successful, influential and popular rock group "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers", as well as a member of the all-star rock supergroup "Traveling Wilburys." He and his band (the lineups include: Mike Campbell on lead guitar, Benmont Tench on keyboards-piano, Stan Lynch and Steve Ferrone on drums, Scott Thurston on rhythm guitar and bassists Ron Blair & Howie Epstein) debuted their first self-titled record in 1976 and over the next four decades, they would go on to chart with several hit rock songs, including: "American Girl," "Refugee," "Don't Do Me Like That," "Breakdown," "Listen to Her Heart," "I Need to Know," "The Waiting," "You Got Lucky," "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Learning to Fly," "Mary Jane's Last Dance" and more. Tom Petty released 13 albums with the Heartbreakers, among them: 'Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' (1976), 'You're Gonna Get It! (1978), 'Damn the Torpedoes' (1979), 'Hard Promises' (1981), 'Long After Dark' (1982), 'Southern Accents (1985), 'Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)' (1987), 'Into the Great Wide Open' (1991), 'Echo' (1999) and 'Hypnotic Eye' (2014), as well as three solo albums: 'Full Moon Fever' (1989), 'Wildflowers' (1994) and 'Highway Companion' (2006). His solo hits include: "Runnin' Down a Dream," "Free Fallin'," "I Won't Back Down," "You Don't Know How It Feels," "You Wreck Me" and more. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, he was a member of the supergroup, Traveling Wilburys with rock music icons Bob Dylan, George Harrison (The Beatles), Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra) and legendary session drummer Jim Keltner, releasing two albums: 'The Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 1' (1988) & 'The Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 3' (1990). He won three Grammy Awards out of 18 nominations. For their contributions to music, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located at 7000 Hollywood Blvd. In 2002, Petty was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In 2007, the Traveling Wilburys were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 2016, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
