She is best known as creator of “Miss Fury” , released in 1941 and published until 1951 and syndicated in papers across the United States. Miss Fury was the first female comic heroine created by a woman. She used the pseudonym Tarpe Mills to mask her identity as a female. She used fashion to enhance Miss Fury’s appeal and following. Miss Fury was the nose art on B-24 bombers and Mills’ cat, Miss Perri-Purr was the unofficial mascot of the Allied troops.
