Samuel S. Clear was born in Winchester, Indiana in October 1845 (1847 according to 1900 census) to PVT Isaac Clear (served during the Civil War as a Private in 81st Regiment Ohio infantry, and his wife Lurana Amanda Sallee Clear (she remarried after her husband died to Robert Smiddy). I have not been able to find Isaac's burial place yet. Samuel married Lavina Nicholas in 1865 and they had 6 children.
