Obituary for Adda Maxfield

Adda Rose Maxfield, 82, passed away April 11, 2017 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville.

Adda was born on February 19, 1935 at her family’s home west of Iconium, Iowa to the late Berle & Catholine (Ball) Beaty. The family lived near Chariton and Oakley and the last family home was on a farm south of Plano. Adda graduated from Seymour High School in 1953. Her faith was nurtured in the Plano Christian Church.

In 1954, Adda moved to Des Moines and that is where she resided until moving “back home” to southern Iowa in 2014. Her first job was with 20th Century Fox Studios as a receptionist and booking agent. She scheduled movies for local theatres and got to meet many famous actors and actresses while promoting their movies in Des Moines. In 1983 she took employment with USDA as a computer programmer for 22 years. After her husband’s death in 1986, she took on a second job with Mercy Hospital in admitting, working two full time jobs for many years. She retired from Mercy in 2013 at the age of 78.

Adda was united in marriage to Delbert “Max” Maxfield in 1962. Together they had two children: daughter, Lyn, who passed away at seven months from heart complications and a son, Mark, “her rock,” who passed away in 2014.

Adda loved to travel and play games with family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. She supported and attended any events they were in.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter-in-law, Amy Maxfield of Melcher; grandchildren: Kelsey, Matthew (Cassandra) and Emily Maxfield; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Hull of Cedar Rapids, sister-in-law Frances (Beaty) Ashby of Mystic, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; two children; three step children: Mary, John and Ann; sisters: Rosalie Bivin, Marilyn Snider and Bonnie Adams and brothers: Max, Rex and Dean.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Memorials may be given to Corydon Senior Meal Site and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
