Robert was a WWII Navy Veteran having served in the Pacific in 1944-1945. He was a first degree member of the Knights of Columbus, In the Major Walter Missbach, #5469 Council in Brooklyn, New York. He was also a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Lovingston. He retired from the University of Virginia Medical Center food service after 15 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth E. Simpson White of Shipman, his children, Debbie Crampton, Linda Bunion, Robert G. White, Jr., Dennis White, Oliver White and Martin White, step-son William Howard, his loving niece Donna Drayton as well as 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rt. 29, Lovingston at 10:00 am on Friday, February 16, 2017 with Father Carlos Lerma officiating. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery in Scottsville. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, February 16, 2017. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice House of the Piedmont, 501 Park Street, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911. Arrangements are under the direction of Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston (434-263-4097).
