Joseph Williams was born on 12 December 1643 in Providence, Rhode Island, died on 17 August 1724 in Providence, Rhode Island. He married Lydia Olney (1645-1724) on 17 December 1669 in Providence, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Thomas Olney (1600-1682) and Mary Ashton (1605-1679).
Notes: Joseph Williams at the age of 33 years old was a Captain of Cranston militia in the defense of Rhode Island in King Philip’s War in 1676. He received citations for valor. From 1683 to 1713 he served as a member of the House of Deputies in the General Assembly. In 1677 he was chosen Constable and in 1678 he served as a petit juror at the General Court of Trails held at Newport, Rhode Island. He was a member of the Cranston Town Council from 1684-1688, 1691-1694 and 1713-1715. He was a Justice of the Peace in 1715 and also was a Tax Collector. Joseph Williams and his wife, Lydia Olney Williams are buried in the Roger Williams Park cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island. On October 26, 1717 he made his Last Will and Testament and on October 24, 1724 his Will was probated. Lydia Olney Williams survived her husband by twenty-three days, after making her Last Will and Testament on September 3, 1724 and probated on October 12, 1724.
