Roger LeRoy Coltharp 1944-2008 passed away Sept. 29, 2008, doing what he loved: playing racquetball with his friends at Utah Valley University.

Roger was born July 1, 1944 near Grand Junction, Colo., to Gerald Archie Coltharp and Venis Mirl Smuin. His family later moved to Vernal where he was raised. After high school, Roger served an LDS mission in the Texas Mission. He attended Brigham Young University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1971. He married Diane Abplanalp. They had four children and later divorced.

For the next 27 years he was loved by students and fellow colleagues as he taught math and biology at Vernal Junior High School. When on summer break, he spent his days as a brick mason and year-round spent his evenings enjoying people and movies. He worked as the manager of the Vernal movie theater. After retirement, he moved to Utah County, married Karla Oaks, and was employed as the Biology Lab Manager at Utah Valley University.

Roger was a very special person and touched the hearts of everyone he met. He had the ability to talk to those around him and make them feel they as if they were the most important person in the world. He had a genuine love and concern for all; he strove to make sure he was doing all that he could possibly do for them. He will be greatly missed.

Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Venis; and daughter, Teresa. He is survived by his father, Gerald (Valorie); brother, Vernon; sister, Raema (Glen) Christensen; wife, Karla Coltharp; children, Bryan (Cristine) Coltharp, Bret (Lesha) Coltharp, and Dena (Kiley) Moore; stepchildren, Cory (Kellie) Oaks, JR (Mon) Oaks, Kevin (Valeri) Oaks, Deena Oaks, Rich Hydo and Laura Oaks.

Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m., Oct. 4, at the Lakeview Stake Center, 400 West 1800 South in Orem.
