US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Connors enlisted into the army at Chicago, IL on December 5, 1867. His listed civilian occupation was teamster. Connors was described as 5'7", blue eyes, dark hair with a fair complexion. Connors was assigned to the 8th US Cavalry Regiment at Ft Selden, NM. At the end of his enlistment, Connors reenlisted at St Louis, MO on August 20, 1875. He was assigned to Company I, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory. Company I was commanded by Captain Myles Keogh. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company I was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Connors was killed sometime during the fighting. Burial details, after the battle, found most of Company I in a low area between Calhoun Hill & Last Stand Hill. It is believed that Company I, while in a skirmish line, were attacked from the rear by warriors led by Crazy Horse and quickly overwhelmed. Connors remains were not reported as being identified. It is likely that he was first buried where he had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
