US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Corporal Coleman (some army records spell his last name as Colman) enlisted into the US Army on September 9, 1873, in Cincinnati, OH. He was described as 5'5", blue eyes, dark hair with a ruddy complexion. His civilian occupation was laborer. On October 18, 1873, Coleman reported for duty at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory and was assigned to Company F, 7th US Cavalry. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company F was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Coleman was killed during the battle. Several days after the battle burial details found the bodies of many soldiers from Company F on or near Last Stand Hill. It is likely that Coleman's unidentified remains were first buried where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
