US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Corp Cody was described as 5'7", blue eyes, dark hair with a medium complexion. His listed civilian occupation was painter. Cody, for unknown reasons, had originally enlisted into the army under the alias of Henry M Scollin on September 24, 1873, in Boston, MA. On October 21, 1873, Cody was assigned to Company M, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at Ft Rice, Dakota Territory. Company M was commanded by Capt Thomas French and would accompany Maj Reno's Battalion at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. During Reno's retreat from the Valley Fight, Cody, while exiting a wooded area, was seen shot from his horse. Friends, that were nearby, heard him shout out "Goodbye Boys!" Two days later Cody's friends reported finding his "severely mutilated body" where he was last seen. It is believed that Cody was killed near Army Scout "Lonesome" Charley Reynolds. Cody's remains were likely first buried where he had died. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were removed to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill. On February 21, 1891, his father was awarded a survivor's pension.
