John was married to Mildred Annyce Richmond in 1892 according to a 1900 census report, they were stated to be married 8 years, they were residing in Galesburg, IL and in the home were three children, Fay Parkins 5, Ray Parkins 4 and Fern Parkins 5.

In a 1905 Kansas State Census, John and Annyce are living in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, KS, in the home are two children, Fern Parkins 10 and Ray Parkins 9.
