Julius Thomasina "J.T." Hargrove (J.T. southern pronunciation is Je't) was born the fifth child to the late Chelsea Hargrove and the late Georgia Mitchell Grant Hargrove on Wednesday, September 2, 1926 and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the age 89 years, 1 month and 21 days.

He received Christ under the leadership of Rev. A.W. Wilson at Holt Street Baptist Church. His Mother was a founding member.

On June 13, 1948 he married Peggye C. Adams. To this union seven children were born three daughters Angela, Evelyn Leah-Patrice, and Sibyl, and four sons Julius L., Michael W., Terry R., and Reginald P. Julius and Peggye divorced in 19--.

On October 15, 1982, he married Emma Douglas. To this union two children were born, Juan T. Hargrove and the late Tiffany R. Hargrove.

Julius and Emma would later join Lilly Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Thomas E. Jordan, where he was a Trustee, and served on the Johnson Williams Usher Board.

Julius served the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre as gunners mate on an aircraft carrier during the last year of World War II at the age of 19. He graduated from Alabama State University (ASU) with a B.S. degree in History. He was an avid reader, and love all jazz, gospel and symphony music. He worked part time jobs with Atlanta Life Insurance, and manage a Montgomery Advertiser newspaper delivery team. He worked at the United States Postal Service for 32 years, and retired as Postmaster in Lowndes County, Alabama. His Associations include: Alpha Phi Alpha ASU Alumni Association, NARFE (National Active Retired Federal Employee Community), activist for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Cleveland Avenue YMCA. In June of 2014 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cleveland Avenue YMCA.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Emma Hargrove, daughters, Evelyn Leah Patrice Hargrove of San Antonio, Texas, Sibyl Hargrove-Kent (William) of San Antonio Texas, five sons; Julius L. Hargrove of Newport News, Virginia, Michael W. Hargrove, of Ashburn, Virginia, Terry R. Hargrove (Joyce) of Montgomery, AL, Reginald P. Hargrove (Ann) of San Antonio, Texas, and Juan T. Hargrove of Montgomery, AL, stepdaughter Vanessa Patterson (Adrian). Grandchildren, Neill O. Davis (Lan), Marty Y. Phillips (Gray), Nicole Aragon, Sybil Davis, Brian Hargrove (Alisha), Charles Collins (Jasmine) William Kent Jr., Jasmine Kent, Reginald P. Hargrove II (Jennifer), Phillip Hargrove, Sydney Hargrove, Stephanie Hargrove, Courtney Hargrove, Thea Rose Hargrove Brown, two step grandchildren, Adrianna K. Patterson and Brionica Douglas, whom assisted daily with his care, three great grandchildren, Rahmaan, Prestyn, and Collin, sister-in-laws, Minnie Hunt (Ronald), Patricia Jordan (Lewis), Barbara McCall, Leon Whiting (Margaret), Arthur Whiting (Delois), whom he thought could solve all problems, Willie McCall, a special nephew, Bondicko Whiting. Celebration of Life, Sunday, November 1, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Stone Tank Antioch Baptist Church, Old Selma Road, with Pastor James Nuckles officiating. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery with E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home directing.
