Hospital Apprentice Palmer was Killed in Action, while serving on the U.S.S. Luce, DD 522. The U.S.S. Luce was sunk by a Japanese kamikaze plane off of Okinawa. Palmer's body was not recovered. His name is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Hawaii. Palmer was awarded the Purple Heart.
