ANNA KALK

Mrs. Kalk Is Fatally Hurt On Saturday
Mrs. William (Anna) Kalk, 63, of Route 1, Cleveland, Manitowoc county, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday at the St. Nicholas hospital of injuries received in a train-car crash an hour earlier at the railway crossing on Michigan avenue just west of 18th street.
Her husband, William Kalk Sr., 72, driver of the car, is in critical condition at the hospital.
Mrs. Kalk’s death is the first traffic fatality recorded within the city limits this year and the fifth for the entire county. She suffered a skull fracture, crushed chest and fractured ankle, hip and arm.

Mr. Kalk has a fractured left hip, crushed right chest and multiple rib fractures. He is in severe shock.
Both accident victims were thrown from their car when hit broadside by the southbound Chicago and North Western passenger train. Their 1947 Studebaker was completely demolished.

Orson Corey and Clarence Van Ess, both of Green Bay, were engineer and brakeman on the train respectively.
Witnesses told police the railway warning signals were in operation at the time of the crash, but it appeared that the driver of the car failed to notice them as the vehicle proceeded onto the tracks in a westerly direction directly into the path of the oncoming train.

Mrs. Kalk was born Aug. 23, 1890, in Grasniar, Russia, was married to Peter Felsinger in 1907, and came to the United States in 1911, settling in Manitowoc County. Her husband died in 1927.

A year later, in 1928, she was married to Christ Arnold who preceded her in death in 1933, and on June 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Kalk.
She was a member of St. Peter and St. John Lutheran Church at Cleveland, and was affiliated with the Volga Aid Verein.

Survivors are her husband; 13 sons, Peter, Carl, Fred, John, Andrew and Henry Felsinger, Sheboygan, Alex Felsinger of Wilmington, Del., Christ Arnold of Sheboygan, Karl Kalk, Sheboygan, Paul and George Kalk, Sheboygan, Clarence Kalk of Manitowoc, and William Kalk, West Bend; four daughters, Mrs. Alvah (Dorothy) Strains?? and Mrs. Julius (Sophie) Dotz, Sheboygan, Mrs. Marvin (Minnie)Grunewald, Howards Grove, and Mrs. Gottlieb (Viola) Herman, Route 1, Cleveland; 37 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ballhorn Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Elden Bode, pastor of St. Peter and St. John Lutheran Church at Cleveland, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at Cleveland.
The body will lie in state at the funeral chapel until the hour of services.
