James A. Dhein, age 77, born March 18, 1927, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was born in Cleveland, and lived there until moving to Sherwood in 1951.

Jim was the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Miller) Dhein. On July 17, 1948, Jim married Marion Elizabeth Schmatz at St. Casimir's Church in Northeim. Jim was part owner/operator of the Sherwood Elevator in Sherwood for many years and was a member of the town of Harrison volunteer fire department in Sherwood for 35 years. He was also an active member of the Travelers Protective Association since 1963, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a certified tree farmer.

The things Jim loved most in life were his grandchildren, baseball, making cider, aging cheese, playing skat with his brothers, tinkering at his son's on Pigeon Road and Father Ken's sermons. Jim and his wife Marion traveled every state in the union including Hawaii and Alaska. He also traveled to Germany, Mexico and Canada. His favorite destinations were Alaska and Germany, where he was able to better appreciate his German heritage. Since 1950, Jim had belonged to St. John-Sacred Heart Parish in Sherwood.

Survivors include his wife: Marion; two sons: Dave (Jayne) Dhein of Sherwood; and Bob (Peggy) Dhein of Sherwood; a daughter: Mary Jo Dhein of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren: Matthew, Katy "Kit-Kat," Megan, Hannah, Sarah and Kelle; and one sister: Pat (Ken) Zastrow. He was preceded in death by two sisters; infant sister: Harriet and Marie (Merritt) Roelse of Sheboygan; four brothers: Edward (Marlene) Dhein of Sheboygan; Joseph (Eileen) Dhein of Manitowoc; Stanley (Irene) Dhein of Cleveland; and Dan (Mildred) Dhein of Kiel.

Cremation has already taken place with Fargo Funeral Home in Kaukauna assisting the family. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date and those details will be announced mid-summer. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Busse, Dr. Sokhi and to Father Allen. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

In fulfillment of Jim's wishes you are invited to a "Celebration of Life" on Sunday July 25, 2004 from Noon to 5:00 p.m. There will be a buffet dinner from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., along with refreshments and live music. The celebration will be held in the Cliffside Ballroom at High Cliff Restaurant in Sherwood, Wisconsin. All family and friends welcome - we would love to add your name to the guest list.
