Richard C. Mayer, 79 of Kiel, died Wednesday morning, July 23, 2014 at Cedar Bay Assisted Living, Elkhart Lake. He was born on January 3, 1935 in Cleveland, son of the late Louis & Mary (Petesch) Mayer. Richard was a 1953 graduate of Central High School in Sheboygan. On August 18, 1956 he married Agnes Meyer at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Agnes preceded him in death on January 29, 1997. Richard worked at Burger Boat, Levitan Fruit Company. He owned & operated Mayers Market in Kiel for 6 years. He was employed at Gilson Brothers and eventually retired from Amerquip in 1997. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Richard enjoyed watching the Packers & Brewers, breakfast at Riverview and spending time with his family. He was a generous, loving man known as "Mr. Early"-always arriving early and always in a hurry. Survivors include one son, Richard "Podge" Mayer of Plymouth, one daughter, Sharon (Cal) Zorn of Elkhart Lake and four grandchildren; Nicole (Eric) Josing, Katy, TX, Jennifer (Quinn) Madson, Greendale, Matt (Karen) Zorn, Green Bay and Josh (Holly) Zorn, Johnstown, CO. He is further survived by five great grandchildren; Scarlett, Solomon & Madelyn Madson, Cayden Zorn and Cameron Josing, one brother, Robert (Alice) Mayer and one sister, Theresa Daun. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Mayer, Ceil Mayer, Mary Ann (Gerald) Menne, Sister Lucy Ann Meyer, two brothers-in-law, Charles (Pauline) Meyer, Joseph (Mary) Meyer, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes, six brothers, Fred, John, Joseph, Peter, Louis, Hilary Mayer and four sisters, Ema Dries, Mary Hansen, Ursula Rettela and Rita Huhn. The Funeral Mass for Richard will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, July 26, 2014 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 413 Fremont St., Kiel. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 am until 10:45am when brief family rites will be held. Richard's family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors & staff at Cedar Bay Assisted Living and Sharon S. Richardson for the wonderful care given to him.
