John F. Rappel, age 85, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

John was born on September 23, 1928 in Manitowoc to the late Frederick and Mary Logan Rappel. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1946. John then enlisted with the United States Army and served his country from 1946 to 1948. On February 18, 1950, John married Dorris M. Bergner at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. John was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Survivors include John's wife: Dorris; three children: Leatrice (John) Crawford, Liverpool, NY; Patrick Rappel, Glendale; and John Michael (Danielle) Rappel, Hyattsville, MD; four grandchildren: Aaron Crawford, Denver, CO; Martha Crawford, Liverpool, NY; Christopher Crawford, Pensacola, FL; and Ali Rappel, Hyattsville, MD; sister: Eunice Pekarske, Manitowoc; brother: Thomas (Betty) Rappel, AZ; also other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at noon on Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand – 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Rev. David Bergner and Rev. Daniel Pekarske. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with entombment of John's cremated remains to take place at Calvary Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at noon. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
