Age 69, died Wednesday, August 19, 1998 at his home in Stockbridge. He was born on April 10, 1929 in Fond du lac County, son of the late Loma (Gladwell) Kappus. He married Lillian Stenz on July 7, 1962 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge. He worked for Radtke Construction Company for a year, worked for the Pauley Cheese Factory in Quinney for six years and then for Kaytee Products in Chilton for 25 years until retiring in October of 1994.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, served as a Communion Distributor and was the president of the church cemetery board for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 128 of Stockbridge, and had served as commander, He also served as the Chaplain of the post for many years. He was the bingo coordinator for 19 years, was an avid bingo player, enjoyed sturgeon fishing, but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren.
Survivors include his love wife of 35 years and bingo partner, Lillian; three sons: Roman Jr. (Jan) Kappus, Stockbridge; Duane Kappus, Stockbridge; David (Sandi) Kappus, Green Bay; three grandchildren: Samantha Jo, Katrina and Joseph Kappus, all of Stockbridge; a sister Rose Moore, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Marge (Jim) Gehl, Forest Junction; two brothers-in-law: Marvin (Virginia) Stenz, Appleton; Daniel (Donna) Stenz, Alabama; nieces, nephews, friends and many other sons and daughters of the ''Wisker Run Club". He was preceded in death by his mother, Loma; a sister, Mari Kegel; a brother: John Kappus, a sister-in-law, Alice Schneider, a brother-in-law, Leo Schneider and a nephew, Lenny Schneider.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday August 22, 1998 at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Stockbridge with the Rev. Lean-der Nickel officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery where military rites by American Legion Post 128 will be held. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday until 12:45 p.m. when family prayers will be held. A prayer service by the American Legion will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
