James Frederick Pokorsky, age 80, of 1126 S. 17th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2004 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1923 in Manitowoc County, son of the late Michael and Jenny Ziarnik Pokorsky. Jim was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1942. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 until 1945. On Feb. 20, 1949, he married the former Phyllis Knutson at St. Mary Church Rectory, Manitowoc. Jim was employed as a Manitowoc firefighter for more than 10 years and was also a private paint contractor for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1985.

Survivors include his wife: Phyllis Pokorsky, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Anthony Fricano, Brookfield; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Thomas and Michele Pokorsky, Port Washington; The Rev. Father Jerry Pokorsky, Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren: Jennifer Pokorsky, Lt. James Pokorsky, William Pokorsky, Nicholas Fricano, Joseph Fricano, Mary Fricano; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kloster, Manitowoc; Ellen Schroeder, Manitowoc; and Kathryn Riesterer, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Jim was also preceded in death by one son: Michael Pokorsky in 1992; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Susan and Harry Hill, Theresa and John Glisch, Lottie Pokorsky; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lawrence Kloster, Myrtle and Harold Anderson and Alton Knutson.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, until the time of Mass of 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be his son, the Rev. Jerry Pokorsky, with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Veteran of Foreign Wars Otto Oas Post #659.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
