George Brokaw moved to Mt Pleasant (Straban) Twp, York (now Adams) co, PA about 1765 at the time that 150 families - mostly Low Dutch - moved from Somerset and Bergen Counties NJ to the Conewago Creek. George lived there to his death.

George lived in Mt Pleasant Twp and was apparently well-to-do. In his will of 1793, he left his "plantations and a tract of land where he now lives" to his sons George and John and ordered daughter Margaret to have a marriage portion equal to what her sisters got when married.

The rest to be divided into shares
2 parts each to sons:
Peter,
Abraham,
George and
John. (their son Isaac born 1774 must have died)

1 share each to daughters:
Ann, wife of Wm Hockdilen (Houghtaling)
Mary, wife of Jacob Foitz
Lena (Magdalena), wife of Cornelis Lott
and Margaret, an equal share when she marries.

In Margaret Bercaw's will, Straban Twp dated 20 May 1801 and proved 6 Sep 1803
she mentions daughters Magdalen and
Ann Hoghtaling, having no children as yet. She also says the remainder of my estate to be divided into twelve equal shares and given to my TWELVE SONS." Two sons, Peter and George were named executors.

Both George and Margaret were bap in the Readington Dutch Church, Hunterdon Co, NJ and are buried in the Dutch Cemetery on the Low Dutch Road two miles from Hunterstown NE of Gettysburg. page 29 "Our Brokaw-Bergaw Heritage"
