Bismarck Man Falls From Loaded Wagon and Wheels Pass Over Body
Thomas Gandy, Sr., fell from a wagon load of culvert piping at Wing Saturday afternoon. Before the horses could be stopped both wheels of the wagon had run over him and he received injuries from which he died in a short time.
Gandy was driving a team for Thos. Fortune, who has a contract for work at Wing. It was first stated that he was thrown from the wagon in a runaway, but subsequent developments showed that he probably slipped from his perilous perch on top of the piping. The wheels ran over his chest, crushing several ribs, and inflicting internal injuries. Gandy's skull was also fractured at the base.
As soon as he learned of the accident, Mr. Fortune secured a gasoline speeder, and placed the injured man on a cot that was laid on the speeder. He hurried with him to Wilton over the new Pingree Wilton extension. Gandy was conscious until the car was about four miles from Wilton, when he lapsed into unconsciousness, and died before the town was reached. His body was brought on to Bismarck Saturday night.
Funeral services were held from the house this morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. Barnhart, of the First Baptist church. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery. The deceased leaves a large family to whom the community extends its sincere sympathy.
