Irvin K. Braund, age 97, of New Lisbon died on Thursday October 10, 2013 at the Serenity House in Tomah, WI. Irv was born June 12, 1916 on the family farm in Hustler to Ernest and Alice Lucinda (Peckham ) Braund. He was raised in the Hustler area. Irv started working at the Nekoosa Foundry & Machine works for 25 cents an hour. Irv was united in marriage to Bertha Mae Flagg on June 21, 1936, and they were later blessed with 3 children, Ronnie, Erna, and Gary. Irv went to work as a machinist for the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois in 1939. He later moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico and worked on machine parts for 2 bombs for WWII. In 1946 Irv moved to Camp Douglas and bought a service station in Hustler, WI. Irv was saved at an Evangelistic meeting in New Lisbon in 1948. Irv also worked as a machinist for Badger Ordinance in Baraboo, WI for 20 years, and then went to work for Walker Stainless Steel in New Lisbon. In 1975, while living outside New Lisbon, Irv helped with the building of the First Baptist Church in New Lisbon. Irv has been a resident of Terrace Heights in Mauston since 2007.
Irv is survived by his daughter Erna Wagner of Sparta, WI, and by 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, and by many nieces and nephews, and a daughter in law Jeanne Braund. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bertha Mae in 1999, 2 sons, Ronnie in 1960 and Gary in 2011, brothers, Clarence and Norley, sisters Norma, Celia, and Verna, and a son in law Gerald Wagner.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 15, 2013 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church, 525 S. Washington St. New Lisbon, WI 53950, with his good friend and Pastor Delbert Oatsvall presiding. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00am till the time of service. Burial will be in the Hustler Cemetery. The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family with services. Online condolences available at www.harefuneralhome.com
