His year of birth is incorrect on many of the documents including is marriage records, death certificate, his obituary and headstone. In the 1870 census he is listed as being 8/12 which would make is birthday October 26, 1869 (census date 14Jul1870). He remains this age on all census records until his marriage in 1921 and he suddenly becomes younger. In the Iowa 1925 Census, he is back to DOB 1869. In the 1930 Federal Census he becomes younger again and dies in 1934 with his wife supplying all the information on the death certificate, etc. Did his wife not know his correct year of birth? It is possible.
