JOSEPH T. BOWEN IS DEAD; WAS IN POOR HEALTH A YEAR.

Chicago Manufacturer and Banker Expires at the Age of 57 - Family at His Bedside.

Joseph Tilton Bowen, for many years a prominent manufacturer and banker, died yesterday at his residence, 1430 Astor street. Death was due to heart trouble.

Mr. Bowen had been in poor health for a year, and his condition became serious about five weeks ago. He was 57 years old, and had been a resident of Chicago for many years. Mr. Bowen was born in Providence, R.I., April 1, 1854, and was educated in the public schools. He married Miss Louise Hadduck de Koven on June 1, 1886.

He was in the silk manufacturing business until 1890. Until about seven years ago he was associated with Byron L. Smith. Later he was resident vice president and manager of the City Trust, Safety Deposit and Surety company of Philadelphia. He was a member of the Chicago, University, City, Merchants', Saddle and Cycle, and Onwentsia clubs.

He is survived by a widow, who is well known for her work at Hull house, and four children, John de Koven Bowen, Joseph T. Bowen, Jr., Miss Helen Bowen, and Miss Louise Bowen. All were at his bedside at the time of his death.
