Adeline C. Kolb, 92, resident of Cleveland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Saturday morning, March 23, 2013. She died at the home of her daughter, Wendy, who had lovingly cared for her the last few months. She was born on October 25, 1920, the daughter of the late Robert and Alma Semph Meyer.
Adeline was a lifelong resident of Cleveland, growing up on a farm and attending school in Town Mosel.
Adeline married Harold Kolb in Texas on November 7, 1942, while Harold was in the U.S. Army. She was his bookkeeper, while he worked and then retired from Standard Oil Company. He predeceased her in February 1998. When raising her children she enjoyed sewing special ocassion dresses for her daughters that were admired by many. Her friends and family truly enjoyed her special knack for preparing and serving meals that they will try to prepare in her memory, but never duplicate. She was an active member of St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland and sang in their choir for more than 50 years. She was asked to sing at many special events, either as a soloist or as part of a duet with her daughter, La Faye. She loved to play cards and belonged to several Sheepshead card clubs. She was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 8974, the Cleveland Garden Club and the Homemakers. She volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and worked for the U.S. Census. As a seamstress, she would "fix' any item of clothing that her kids would ask her to. She made several quilts that will be cherished by those to whom she gave them. Family often asked her to join them on vacations. She has been to Hawaii, Florida, Branson and Door County with her family, who have fond memories of these special times with her. Adeline had a great sense of humor, and her family will smile each time they remember some of her funny ways with words. She loved shopping trips with her daughters and while she would say "buy it if you like if' to them, she insisted on waiting for a good bargain for herself.
She is survived by one son, Bill Kolb and his wife, Diana, along with four daughters, Connie Rautmann, of Monroe, LaFaye Herzog and her husband, Wayne, of Cleveland, Wendy Kolb and her special friend, Greg Pagel, of Sheboygan, and Cyndi Krause and her husband, Adam, of Sheboygan. She has eight grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Robinson, Mike (Mary) Rautmann, Keisha (Matt) Ervasti, Ben Herzog, Ashley Herzog, Kyrie (and Joe Burton) Krause, Aleah Krause and Quinn Krause. She will also be missed by seven great-grandchildren, Meghan and Maxwell Mueller, Abigail, Natalie and Josie Rautmann, and Adelaide and Iyla Ervasti. She leaves behind her beloved companion, Rusty, a pomeranian.
Her children and their families will always be grateful for Adeline and for the love and generosity she showed them through the years. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland from 10 a.m., until they may join in the service to honor her life at noon. Pastor David Endorf will officiate. Burial will follow the service at St. Johannes Cemetery in Cleveland. The Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel of Cleveland is assisting the family with these funeral arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in Adeline's name.
