Mattie May Barr, 80, of Elliott died Sunday, May 12, at the Griswold Care Center.
The daughter of Shelby H. and Mary Pearl Peck England, she was born November 6, 1910 in Pleasant Township of Cass County and was married February 28, 1933 to Neil Everett Barr in Omaha. They lived two years south of Red Oak before moving to the Elliott area, where they farmed until the death of Mr. Barr, January 3, 1970. She moved into the Elliott Retirement Home in July 1983.
Mrs. Barr was a member of the Elliott Methodist Church, Golden Hour Club, United Methodist Women, and the Happy Hour Neighborhood Club. She helped teach Bible School and was active in Senior Citizens.
Surviving are a daughter, Ilene Mardesen and her husband Dean of Elliott; two grandsons; two great grandchildren, and two brothers, Shelby England of Griswold and Kermit England of Villisca.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Howell, Vera Ray, and Loretta Kvaal and three brothers, Bill, Elvin "Spike", and Gaylor England.
Funeral services are being held this Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Elliott Methodist Church with Pastor William Tomlinson officiating. Doris Reed is organist and Patty Vestal is soloist. In charge of flowers are Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Parker and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gammell.
