Obituary

Haynes, Herman Eugene, age 90, son of the late Lonnie E. and Myrtle Sams Haynes, died Monday, February 25, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 in the Chapel of Leak Memory at 11:00 am with Ministers Brad Sullivan and Philip Black officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the services. Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife of 71 years, Merle F. Haynes, their children, Ronald H. Haynes of Mobile, Kathy H. Jones of Montgomery; grandchildren, Holly H.and Garlon Rainey, David R. and Allison Haynes, Wendi H.Hamilton, Chris and Heather Jones, Kasey and Tim Brown and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Tucker of Miami; a brother, Robert Haynes of Plantation, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lucy Haynes, a sister Peggy Bethea and a brother, William E. Haynes. Mr. Haynes was a member of Vaughn Park Church of Christ. During WWII he served for two years in the South Pacific with the Naval Seabees and in recent years he was privileged to participate in the Honor Flight to the Memorial in Washington. Mr. Haynes worked for The Montgomery Advertiser for almost fifty years. Donations can be made in his memory to the Family Sunshine Center of Montgomery or the Alabama Head Injury Foundation of Mobile. Grandsons and Nephews will be serving as pallbearers.
