Florence was born to Harry Herrod and Emma Proctor. In England she worked for Staffordshire Pottery and during the war she worked for a munitions plant. It was in England that she met and married Robert Laverne Wood. They had two children Barbara and Kenneth. After Robert passed away she married Arthur Sylvester Bates.
